Canadian Child Molestors certainly  feeling quite smug about plying their horrendous acts against children overseas in asian countries know if caught, their Canadian Passport offers them some protection as they call the Canadian Embassy to assist them against incarceration.  Regardless that a third world country's laws against Child Sex are far more stringent there than in Canada. The prospect of a Child Rapist spending years in a dank overcrowded  jail cell in a country with little or no human rights is just not as appealing, versus a comfy, warm Canadian jail cell with numerous opportunities for parole, TV, internet and 3 square meals a day.  Canada if upon their findings find irrefutable proof of a Child Rapists activities against children should just walk away and let the Host Country deal with the offender and wash their hands of the incident.  This would be the only way in which to stop this ongoing problem. Why would we want a Child Rapist back in our own country, when Third World Countries handle these cases quite effectively thank you.

Nearly 150 Canadians charged overseas with sex crimesDavid Wylie, Canwest News ServicePublished: Wednesday, April 02, 2008

OTTAWA - A Canadian passport is essentially a "get out of jail free card" for people having sex with children overseas, says a B.C. law professor.

Benjamin Perrin, who teaches at the University of British Columbia, has reviewed information obtained through the Access to Information Act from the Department of Justice on sexual exploitation charges overseas. He found that 146 Canadians were charged with child sex offences overseas from 1993-2007, based on requests for consular support.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff.

I never researched the Canadian Embassy's attitude towards Canadian nationals who break foreign laws; with the US Embassy, you're on your own if you get busted, particularly for sex crimes.

Well as recent events with our second sex crime suspect, apparently family and friends are appealing to our government to intervene and have them sent home to serve what I feel will be a extremely lienent sentence, especially if they serve any time in British Columbia, as is par for the course.

Thanks to you both for your comments, it is appreciated.

While I agree that child molesters and such should face harsh punishments I would prefer that those punishments be doled out here at home.  I don't believe it is beyond some corrupt police/governments to use threats of bogus charges to get a bribe or incarcerate a person for political reasons.  Bring them back, let our system deal with them and then put them in the general population.  The rest will take care of itself.

You have a valid point EastVanRay, but on the other hand perhaps letting more harsh countries deal with Child Rapists would be a better deterrent if the Rapisit knew our Government would as Jordan says, wash their hands of them. Thanks for the comments,.
