World Wide Tours Bus Crashes in the Bronx
A bus operated by World Wide Tours crashed while traveling from Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut to Chinatown in New York City on March 11. The crash, which took place when the World Wide Tours bus crossed from Westchester into the Bronx, killed 15 people.
The bus driver, Ophadell Williams, told police that a tractor trailer has hit his bus, causing him to swerve off the road, but there are no marks on the tractor trailer to corroborate his story. The driver of the truck said that the World Wide Tours bus was swerving all over the road.
According to witnesses, Williams had strayed against the rumble strips several times before the crash.
The Post writes that World Wide Tours has been investigated 26 times for driver fatigue in the last two years, and has been cited five times.
The bus driver, Ophadell Williams, had claimed he swerved to avoid a tractor-trailer, but investigators were suspicious, based on tire marks and accounts from passengers on the bus.
