Two children have now died and another is in serious condition in hopsital. About 11 people have been injured.
A van jumped the curb at 11:31am this morning in Chinatown, New York, killing one child and injuring four or five others.
The accident happened in front of 38 East Broadway near Market Street - the children were on the sidewalk when the van hit them.
Authorities say one of the children is in critical condition, and another is serious but stable. The other children appear to have minor injuries and are being treated at the scene.
Numerous emergency vehicles are on the scene.

This tragedy was totally preventable. Why does a delivery driver need to leave the engine ON when making a delivery in NYC? I don't care if you are stopping for one minute. TURN THE ENGINE OFF. This would never have happened if this was done. Not only would these children still be alive, but the accumulated exhaust in NYC where people are in such close quarters with vehicles would be drastically reduced. It should be a LAW here that delivery drivers MUST turn off their vehicles when making a stop no matter how short.
