Honduras: Riots also for a football match

NowPublic will be updating this story as more information becomes available.

A fight between fans at a Honduran football game has left two people dead, including a 12-year-old boy. Fire department chief Carlos Cordero said fans of the Olimpia and Motagua teams fought each other "with everything they had in their hands". The rioters also battled police who tried to restore order. Gunfire rang out, killing the boy and a 35-year-old man. Sixteen people were injured, including six who were shot. It was unclear what provoked the rioting on Sunday night. The violence erupted amid tension over 28 June's military ousting of President Manuel Zelaya.

This is sad! Sad for the game as well as for the people. May the souls RIP and may the injured recover soon.

Hi Jarrett,

This is a very sad event.

I have a critical comment regarding your presentation of this story.

Your coverage has a total of 15 videos "Honduras: Riots also for a football match". However, only one video is related to the football match riot.

Nobody is disputing the horrible violence and I am sure everyone condemns it.

However, by adding archive video to this story (with some footage nine years old). The story creates a false impression to readers/viewers.

If your video gallery was named say "VIOLENT UNREST AND RIOTS IN HONDURAS OVER THE LAST NINE YEARS" it would be accurate. As is, the story is inacurate and will cause false perception.

I am sure this is a tec issue that can be easily fixed. Other than that great job!

Let me be clear, I am not condoning the conduct of the police but what were these people doing to get beaten, right in the video you see other people walking by the police with no problem. Just to put things in perpective here is a link to a football game in a first world country.

Again, don't get me wrong, I do not condone violence, but unfortunatly for some that is all they understand.
