2 people dead, 7 injured after shooting at Kansas wake

Two people are dead and seven are injured after a shooting tonight at a wake in Wichita, Kansas.

Not all the victims are adults, but at this time it is unknown if any children have died.

One victim is in critical condition and four more are seriously wounded.

Lee says the shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. during a wake at a house. He could not say how many shooters were involved but some of the shots came from outside the home. No arrests were made.

Lee says police had trouble communicating because many at the house did not speak English.

Two people died Saturday night and seven were wounded in a shooting in southeast Wichita.

One of the survivors was in critical condition at a Wichita hospital, and four were listed as serious. Some were taken to the hospital by ambulance; others arrived on their own.

Deputy Police Chief Robert Lee said the shooting occurred about 9:30 p.m. during a wake at a home in the 2900 block of East Dunham, which is just northwest of 31st Street South and Hillside.

"During the wake, persons arrived and fired," Lee said, but he could not specify how many gunmen there were. "There were quite a few folks in the house. Nine were shot."

Lee said at least some shots were fired from the street.

All the victims were adults, he said, but he did not have their ages or genders.

Police were looking for a green pickup that was seen leaving the scene.

Lee said police will be investigating throughout the weekend.

"We're still very early into our investigation," he said.

What is news here? How many shootings do they get in the US year after year after year? This is nothing but old hat....the same old same ole. It's the stuff made of nightmares. It's the stuff that says we support the Constitutions Right to Bear Arms....so crooks can get guns, and so Cops can legally have guns to hunt down the crooks. Yet....they never bat 50% in catching them. Think of all the drive by shootings...Perhaps high fuel prices bring the drive by shootings down a bit.....but as fuel prices decline and no jobs......Hey we get an escalation of crime and more shootings. I suspect tomorrow I can count on a new nothing new shooting somewhere in the USA....It's pathetic......and they say those guys in Congress are law makers? I blame them for the murder in the USA....not the guy they lock up...or finally get around to illegally executing. Guns need to be outlawed....I am a firm believer in that.

I think it is news when a violent shooting of multiple people happens at a an elderly woman's wake. This has nothing to do with a drive by shooting that is usually perpetrated by rival gang members.

I am not disputing that fact. I am disputing the fact that shootings in the US are a normal everyday occurance. It's as though it isn't news anymore. I was right.....this morning...
