Two Unitarian ministers in Virginia will no longer sign marriage licenses for heterosexual couples in protest of discrimination against gay marriage.
The Unitarian Universalist Church ( the one in which this author was raised and married,  by the way)  is one of the most liberal and pro-gay Churches in America.  It dates back to Channing;    Benjamin Franklin was a Unitarian also,  and proclaimed its maxims in his writings.
Reverends Phyllis L. Hubbell and John P. Manwel, ministers at a Norfolk Unitarian Church have stated they will continue to officiate wedding ceremonies, but will refuse to sign marriage licenses for heterosexual couples from this point forward in protest of Virginia’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.
