breaking news: Agra:Two year old child "Vandana" has been trapped in a 180 feet deep borewell since last 19 hours. she stepped on the cotton rug which was covering the hole and it could not take her weight as she fell 180 feet deep. The bore well was abandoned. The helpless cries could be heard and the villagers quickly informed the authority. The indian Army was called in for the rescue as it required precision. The child is being given the oxygen through a pipe lest she dies of lack of oxygen. Some packets of biscuit were also rolled down for her to eat.Her parents were continously calling her to give her some solace.A paralle tunnel has been dug up as the well is just a feet in diameter and no elder can go inside the same hole. The army jawans said that it could take another two hours in the operation to complete.Meanwhile the condition of child is critical.

the people have started questioning the authorites why it was not covered with a proper lid.

Yeah, just a rug? It would have been safer to leave it uncovered- at least that way people could see the hole.

A rug? Why was the hole covered with a rug?

azzayindia, It almost  looks like someone deliberately turned the hole into a trap by adding the rug.

azzayindia, you've convinced me you've done the work - it's authentic. I also think that you've been fair and thorough. I didn't get the sense that you were hiding your biases, or passing off other's work as your own. Or worse -- getting paid by those you cover -- so it's transparent and independent. I also think you deserve praise for being an eyewitness, and for your investigative efforts. Good stuff.

UPDATE:

Wed, Mar 26 09:35 AM

Agra,
Mar 26 (ANI): Army's help has been sought to rescue the two-year-old
girl Vandana who fell into a 45-foot borewell at Tehra village in Agra
on Tuesday night while playing with her friends.

The rescue
operation started soon after the villagers complained about the
incident to the authorities. The Army and the civil authorities have so
far succeeded in sending in oxygen for the girl with the help of a tube.

Armed personnel manning the rescue operation said that the child was breathing and could be heard crying.

Agra
Commissioner Sitaram Meena said, "The rescue team has managed to dig a
40-feet hole. I think it is just a matter of another two hours before
the child can be pulled out to safety."

Agra District Magistrate
Mukesh Kumar Meshram said, "We have been able to provide the child with
glucose water and biscuits. She is conscious right now. Work is also
being done to dig a parallel well as an alternative means of rescue."

Earlier,
in a similar incident, a five-year-old boy, Prince, fell into a 53 feet
and 1.5 wide shaft in Shahbad, Haryana in July 2006. He was rescued
from the pit after over two days of continuous rescue operations by the
Army.

Army personnel had dug up a 56-feet deep, 15-feet wide
parallel tunnel from a dried up well alongside the shaft to rescue
Prince after almost 50 hours.

Later, three more similar incidents were also reported in Madhya Pradesh. (ANI)
