Bajaur: At least 25 al-Qaeda linked militants, 8 of them foreigners, were killed when Pakistani helicopter gun ships shelled rebel hideouts at village Badan in Bajaur Agency. Badan is home Village of the Tehrik Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Spokesman Sayyed Muhammad (Mullah Umar).
The casualties occurred on Thursday in the Bajaur region, where Pakistani troops launched a major offensive against Islamic militants in August.
‘Helicopter gunship pounded positions of militants in Badan area, killing 25 rebels including 8 foreigners,’ local administration told on telephone.
He did not disclose the nationality of the two foreigners. But a local resident said that two of them are Arabs. (Local people consider those militants are Arabs who speak Arabic or Chechen languages)
The Pakistani military says more than 1,000 militants have been killed since it launched its offensive in Bajaur in early August, including Al-Qaeda's operational commander in the region, Egyptian Abu Saeed Al-Masri.
More than 0.5 Million Persons have been displaced from Bajaur and now living in tents camps in various parts of the province Pakhtoon khwa.
