This is a developing story, please share any information or footage.

CAREFREE, Ind. — An explosion that released a cloud of hydrochloric acid gas at an Indiana engine plant has sent at least 26 people to a hospital.

Police say no one's life was in danger after the blast at the Jasper Engines & Transmissions plant.

More than 300 people evacuated the plant.

Authorities say 26 people were admitted to Harrison County hospital, but it's not clear how many might have gone to other hospitals, but about 31 complained of respiratory problems.

Workers were apparently mixing chemicals when a cloud of hydrochloric acid gas was accidentally created. Hydrochloric acid is highly corrosive and is often used in metal and plastics work.
