At least 17 civilians are suspected dead in an LTTE suicide bomb attack which was targeted at the civilians fleeing from the LTTE custody in the no-fire-zone.

A suspected Tamil Tiger suicide bomber set off an explosion among the throng of people and wounded at least 17, military sources told Reuters.
An LTTE suicide bomber has attacked thousands of Tamil civilians who are now trying to seek refuge with Sri Lankan Army, this morning (April 20). According to the latest information, about 10,000 civilians are now being rescued by troops from terrorist grip.

Battlefield sources said at least 17 civilians including women and children have been killed in the cowardly bomb blast.

Earlier in a landmark rescue mission SLA Soldiers broke through LTTE fortifications in the Puthumathalan area facilitating more than 5000 civilians to flee from the LTTE custody.

At least 5,000 people burst out of Sri Lanka's tiny war zone on Monday, after soldiers broke through a long earthen wall the Tamil Tiger rebels built to stall their advance, the military said.

The Sri Lankan government can say anything they want and anyway they want it.

But the Sri Lankan Government keeps on denying visas to journalists, aid agencies and boots them out at the Sri Lanka's Katunayakka International Airport. Deny Access coded for any journalist or foreign aid worker - they can't even go to Sri Lanka on vacation.

If it is telling the truth, then the Sri Lankan Government should have no problem letting journalists in, rather than their propaganda machine "defense.lk" spit out lies after lies.

"rather than their propaganda machine "

Specifications ?

There is another update on the civilian hostage situation.

Sri Lankan forces today captured a LTTE defence line and rescued over 15,000 Tamil civilians, who had been forcibly held by the Tamil Tigers in the government declared no-fire zone, officials said.
The troops took control of the three-kilometre embankment in Pudumathalan area in Mullaittivu early this morning and were able to open a safe passage for the civilians, they said.

According to the officials, this was the biggest single rescue so far.

Sri Lankan government has claimed that LTTE was using thousands of Tamil civilians, who have been trapped in the ongoing conflict between the security forces and Tamil Tigers, as a human shield. PTI

Tamia, what is your tamilnet say about this? Reuters India is a part of SL propaganda machine or what?

If the so called "independent" reporters were there would the fate of the unfortunate civilians have been different?

And for the aid agencies, it is evident that they too "developed" the LTTE with all their funds, since not a mud hut has been built in the name of the civilians.

Your lame "copy+paste" accusations cannot justify the brutality of the LTTE terrorism Tamiya.

You also have blood on your hands by supporting a terrorist outfit which feeds on the very people is supposedly represents.

Thank you for reading my comment.

There is no access to journalists to the area, not even to Sri Lanka unless they "act responsibly". There is only Sri Lankan Army reporting via defense.lk.

Where the news came from for the Reuters India?

You sound very much like your "honorable" Defense Secretary Gota, who accuses journalists and aid workers of having "blood in their hand" for talking about human rights violations of the Sri Lankan Government.

If I would have "blood in my hand" for supporting freedom and rights of Tamils, then so be it.

I thought you had your tamilnet correspondant who miraculously manages to escape every Army shelling and firing, without any harm at all, while shells and bullets go whizzing past him, and people around him falls like flies.

What news from him?

If you really cared for your brethren trapped in the human shield, call megalomanic's satallite phone and ask him to release the hostages rather than batting for him and his brutality.

BTW the civilians seem to run towards the Army, every time a hole opens up. Any particular  reason?

Thank you for asking about Tamilnet.com too, as you seems to have a deeper understanding Tamilnet.com gives real news than the defense.lk.

Since you asked for it, here is what is Tamilnet.com saying about the latest Sri Lankan Army (SLA) firing spree:

Chaos and carnage as SLA enters 'safety zone'
[TamilNet, Monday, 20 April 2009, 06:19 GMT]
Several hundreds of civilians are feared killed and injured and total chaos prevails among civilians as Sri Lanka Army (SLA) advanced into the so-called 'safety zone' in Pokka'nai Monday morning 11:00 a.m., according to latest reports from Vanni. Heavy fighting was reported along the bunds of the lagoon and patients in the Puthumaaththa'lan makeshift hospital were forced to run away as Rocket Propelled Grenades launched by the SLA hit the hospital. A few medical staff remaining in the hospital are hiding in bunkers. People were seen running in panic as dead and injured were seen lying scattered everywhere, eyewitnesses told TamilNet.

Full fire-power is being deployed by the SLA in the battle on Monday that began at 2:00 a.m. Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) fire, shelling, RPG fire and gunfire have hit several places causing heavy civilian casualties.

Meanwhile, reports from Colombo said that around 5,000 civilians fell into the hands of the SLA.

Nadesan denies reports of human bomb, blames Colombo for deploying banned weapons

Political Head of the LTTE, B Nadesan categorically denied reports in Sri Lankan and the Indian media that Tamil Tiger human bombs blew themselves up to prevent civilians fleeing the so-called safe-zone. "The LTTE denies these fabricated stories that seek to discredit us and divert attention away from the suffering of the Tamil people," he said when contacted by TamilNet Monday night.

Sri Lankan forces have deployed three types of internationally banned weapons such as cluster shells, napalm bombs and phosphorus bombs against civilians, causing heavy casualties among civilians. He said nearly one thousand civilians were killed and many more wounded in SLA attacks.

So far around 1,200 have been brought to the makeshift hospital in Mullaivaikkal, Mr.Nadesan said.

Several people were killed inside their tarpaulin huts and the rescue workers have not even been able to transport their bodies, he added.

Reports surfaced in Sri Lankan and Indian media Monday that three LTTE human bombs were exploded to prevent civilians who were fleeing the so-called safe zone.

Thousands of civilians, injured in the bombing, are flocking the temporary hospital at Mullaivaikkal.

Independent sources, such as civilians and doctors, talking to media have attested that cluster bombs had caused heavy casualties in Monday's attack.
