3 US Marines Shot in Mexico: Gunmen in Federal Police Vehicle
Cuernavaca, Mexico Shooting: 3 Marines Wounded
Three US Marines were injured when their armored US Embassy SUV was fired upon by gunmen in another vehicle. Initial reports identified the victims as "US government employees", but it has emerged that they were soldiers.
The gunmen were in what was described as a Mexican federal police vehicle.
The attack was carried out on a two-lane road near Cuernavaca.
This is the third attack on US officials in Mexico in the last three years. In 2010, a shooting in Ciudad Juarez killed three people, including a pregnant US consulate employee and her husband. In 2011, two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were shot Ojo Caliente; one of them was killed. Both previous incidents were linked to drug cartels.
Mexico's Federal Police are part of the problem when it comes to drug trafficking.
