Latest report coming from Japan have confirmed 45 hurt as US-bound plane hits turbulence over Japan's Narita international airport.

Ambulances took the injured to local hospitals after the jet with 408 passengers and 14 crew landed at Narita International Airport outside Tokyo at 12:19 pm local time (0319 GMT) on Friday, an airport official said.

The flight had been set to continue on to Los Angeles after a stopover.

"The latest information we have is that 39 passengers were injured in addition to six crew members," said Toshiaki Nohara, a spokesman for Narita Airport Authority, which runs the airport.

A middle-aged woman passenger, speaking in accented Japanese, told the TBS television network: "The person in front of me flew up to the ceiling. The person behind me collapsed and looked unconscious."

A young man, also speaking in halting Japanese, said: "I was really scared. I thought I would die. The plane shook so much, and my whole body hovered up in the air. Inside the cabin, everybody was screaming loudly."

Northwest Airlines spokesman Masashi Takahashi said: "Air turbulence is believed to be the cause. The turbulence occurred 25 to 30 minutes before landing, when the seat belt light was on."

I agree with Paschen, you've the wrong plane, wrong video.  Can you not be more accurate with this report?

Both the photo and video posted with this story are irrelevant to this event. Photo's and video's should have some relevance to the contents.

Forty-seven people were injured Friday when a Northwest Airlines passenger plane from Manila was hit by turbulence while circling above waters off Chiba Prefecture awaiting permission to land at Narita airport, officials said. The injured passengers and crew members have been taken to hospitals near the airport, according to local fire department officials and Narita International Airport Corp, the operator of the airport.

Vincent Salazar, a 55-year-old American passenger, said he heard screams when the plane suddenly descended and then made an ascent about 30 minutes before landing. Some people who did not have their seatbelts fastened hit their heads on the ceiling and injured their necks.

"It really happened so fast and it was over," Salazar said. "We were flying and then the seatbelt sign came on and when we were trying to get back to the seats, the plane dropped and so some people went up and hit the top (ceiling)."

"I actually was pretty calm because I’ve flown a lot, but the lady next to me was screaming...And unfortunately some people weren’t in their seatbelts. They were just flying."

Hmm...I frequently take that same flight, I wonder if it is Flight 71, I have to take that same flight on 29 March. There is a lot of turbulence on that route.

ouch, turbulence is tough to detect. always sit with your belt on. obviously there will be times you have to take it off.
