In an intensified battle against suspected militants American forces have killed 32 people, including three women. The Sunday death toll resulted from the latest round of a military offensive in the insurgent-infested Bajur tribal region, which borders Afghanistan. Bajur is a suspected hide-out of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.
Security forces have also declared a temporary ceasefire in the restive Swat region of the North West Frontier Province to facilitate peace talks between the Taliban and local elders.
At least 30 militants were killed and over 20 injured in air strikes by Pakistani security forces on Sunday in a troubled northwestern tribal region, where the army is conducting a crackdown on the local Taliban.
Two jet fighters and several gunship helicopters targeted militant positions in different parts of Bajaur Agency, where over 200 Taliban fighters have been killed since Thursday.
The air strikes also destroyed several militant hideouts. Sources in the paramilitary Frontier Corps were quoted by state-run agency as saying that at least 30 militants were killed and 20 others injured when security forces backed by gunship helicopters and artillery targeted militant hideouts in five areas of Bajaur Agency.
They said "heavy losses" were inflicted on the militants. The security forces have claimed that 1,100 militants have been killed in Bajaur Agency since the army launched an operation against the Taliban in the area some six weeks ago.

Sanjay Jha, I like this story. It's good stuff. Bajaur Agency is my hometown. After eruption of fighting some half a million people have migrated from the areas. A lot of thanks for keeping watch on Bajaur Agency.
