300,000 more to move for China's Three Gorges Dam
China Banned Avatar, fearing the revolt for its policy of reckless development by displacing millions from its root. Latest report by Chinese media says that another 300000 people will be displaced from the reservoir site of Three George dam.
Well, Avatar won't be there to protect those homeless soul for sure but the Chinese authority will definitely try there best to kill possibility of any such Avatar.
An additional 300,000 people will be forced to move from their homes because of China's controversial Three Gorges Dam and its huge reservoir, state media reported on Thursday.
The English-language China Daily said the relocation were aimed at preventing pollution from adjacent communities contaminating the reservoir, and at protecting residents from possible seismic dangers.
The report quoted government officials in the huge municipality of Chongqing in southwestern China. The dam, the world's largest hydroelectric project, is located in central Hubei province, but most of its reservoir is in Chongqing.
State media said in September that 1.27 million people had already been relocated to make way for the project.
Chinese officials have previously said 1.4 million people were to be subject to forced relocation from areas now submerged or due to be submerged by the reservoir.
Critics of the 22.5-billion-dollar dam -- which is the world's largest, at more than 2,300 metres (7,500 feet) wide and 185 metres high -- have long decried what they call its huge human and environmental costs.
They have alleged massive corruption in the resettlement programme, while villagers forced from their homes have complained they were denied promised government compensation and benefits.

China did not ban Avatar, but it did delay it because of the holiday season and in order to promote Chinese movies in that period.
Further the people are being relocated not put out on the streets to become homeless. New apartments and houses have been build over the past 3 years for this intention.
The dam is controversial though and may have some unforeseeable environmental side effects.
Still China is now the leader in green Energy with over 12% of its total energy supply coming from renewable energy sources, it did now surpass Germany who was the leader until 2008.
Every one else in the world is far behind in that regard.

Well China is breaking all the records, but the pain of displacement is there. Here is India we have several such stories of displacement and so called settlement.
Do we really need such Big dam at all. Small dams can solve the energy problem.

The 3 gorges dam is so massive it can be seen from space. Some (experts) think it can cause earthquakes, and other (experts) say it will tilt the planet moving the North and South Poles axis? Not all people have received housing to replace the destruction of their own or former homes. Same kind of housing story happened in Beijing with the Olympic construction. People were promised new housing but never got it. Which led to one deranged man stabbing foreigner(s). Am American if I'm remembering correctly.
