Update: Latest news says that all the children have been rescued.
The local residents rescued on Thursday more than 300 school children who were earlier abducted by the militants.
According to sources, militants kidnapped more than 300 children at a government school in upper Dir area. The locals, after receiving the reports, reached the scene and tried to rescue them, resulting in an exchange of fire.
Two suicide bombers blew themselves while the third bomber managed to flee from the spot. However, locals managed to rescue the children safely.
Meanwhile, police reached the area and launched the search operation.

Militants on Thursday took some 300 children hostage in a school in Pakistan's troubled North West Frontier Province.
Militants have taken over a school in Dir district and taken the children hostage, state-run PTV reported.
The militants were exchanging fire with local residents. No further details were immediately available.
The Pakistani Taliban is active in Dir district.
