The 39 people who went missing  after a massive fire broke out in a large supermarket in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, are feared dead.

So far, one person has been reported dead. The man jumped from the second floor of the building, in an attempt to escape the flames

Witnesses spoke about people trapped in the Nakumatt store, screaming behind locked door.

It remains uncertain what caused the enormous blaze, which started on Wednesday afternoon. At that time, the supermarket was packed with shoppers and the streets were buzzing with activity.

It took firefighters many hours to fight the flames.
