New study shows that shifting to 40% renewable electricity production and 30% biofuel by 2038 will create 4.2 million jobs.

WASHINGTON - A major shift to renewable energy and efficiency is expected to produce 4.2 million new environmentally friendly "green" jobs over the next three decades, according to a study commissioned by the nation's mayors.

The study, released Thursday by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, says that about 750,000 people work today in what can be considered green jobs from scientists and engineers researching alternative fuels to makers of wind turbines and more energy-efficient products.

Erik Larson, I like this story. It's good stuff. Does the report say how many jobs will be lost in the "traditional" fuel industry?

Thanks, Tina and that's a good question- i don't know if this mayor's report covers that, but it seems estimates have probably been made by industry or govt agencies. Demand for energy continues to grow worldwide, which will be offsetting any job cuts caused by mandated shifts to renewables. Cheap Oil will eventually run out, but with prices high it makes things like shale oil profitable, and clean coal technology will continue to improve.

Tina, jobs lost in oil industry? Are you American ? Don't use a phone send a horse carriage message,  keeps horse $hit in place to grow tomatoes.

Europe/Germany 500 000 high paid jobs in the renewable economy, $10bn export, in 5  years $100bn. Good night american couch potatoes, increase your survival potential. Google: Harvard university: Schumpeter's constructive destruction of the dinosaurs, makes way for new business...Thanks for trusting solarlife,  the independant european voice; green economy makes money
