A four-year-old boy shoots his baby sister with a 9mm handgun earlier today in Las Vegas, and now the two-year-old is in critical condition in hospital. Police said the young boy found the handgun inside the home and it went off when he was holding it, hitting his sister in the torso.

According to police, the father was home at the time and the gun appears to have been improperly secured.

An investigation is underway.

This comes less than a week after another Las Vegas boy, this time five-years-old, shot himself in the head after finding his father's handgun in the car. That father has been charged with child endangerment.

It will be revealing to hear about the parent's roles.  What was the father doing?

Children will explore everywhere. I want a handgun but am terrified the wrong person

could find it.  I personally think anyone living alone should have one if they have taken

courses and are confident with it.

This is very sad.  Can you imagine what the two year old felt when this happened?

I can tell you why I know something about this.  I am in my parents home presently.

There are no guns here.  There was one antique handgun (inoperable) that looked like

a toy gun.  It was in a drawer in an unused backroom.  My grandchildren were visiting

Boys!  One of their fav activities is to go look in  the attic.  Not much up there but it

is magical to them..they can see where we "cannot".  One day the little one who at

the time was about 4 came walking down the hall with this little antique gun...not

saying a word just holding it walking along like it was a toy...never said a word.  I

shuddered .  ..and still do when I recall seeing this.  So I know for sure if I ever

bought a gun it would have to be very secure; so how helpful is that if someone breaks

in and you are busy trying to unlock the box ya keep your pistol in?  I am undecided.

I still support the right to gun ownership.

There are a lot of lousy parents in the world.

Guns don't fire by themselves--guns are inanimate objects! I can't tell you how many loaded guns I've seen thrown on the ground and against walls. None of them fired!  Nowadays, at least 50% of American adults are on some form of prescription drugs. Their kids are on prescription drugs too! And my best guesstimate is that 30% of the American population is on a combination of prescription and illegal drugs. "Healthy" Americans simply smoke weed or drink alcoholic beverages . . how's that for "healthy? So where does America go from there and what are its choices? Most of the American populace, nowadays,  are completely and totally insane and the only thing that keeps them in check, and from killing each other, is that they still have some money left in their pockets and, as a result, they can continue to put food on their table and buy things that they don't need simply because their neighbors are buying those things. The fact that American kids are  killing American kids doesn't  surprise me in the least. Today, America is at a literal live or die crossroads-- and, in my opinion,  only about 5% of the American population has its head screwed on straight.

Why does not the police charge with murder these so-called fathers?

I second artiste. If at all a case has to be charged then it should accuse the parents for keeping such deadly weapons especially at the vicinity of the kids.Regards,Mack

It is so important to properly secure guns in the home.  This is definitely not something for gun control advocates to latch onto.  It is extremely negligent firearms management which ended up in tragedy.
