Humberto Centeno, the El Salvador's Minister of the Interior said the deaths were reported in at least five of 14 provinces of the mountaineous Central American country.

Hurrican Ida is not expected to make direct hits on Mexico or Cuba.
Forty people in Nicaragua have died after three days of rain caused by Hurricane Ida, the country's interior minister said Sunday.
Humberto Centeno said the deaths, from flooding and landslides, were reported in at least five of the 14 provinces of the mountainous Central American country.
Ida made landfall Thursday over east-central Nicaragua, destroying hundreds of homes and power lines, before weakening to a tropical storm.
By Sunday morning, it had regained strength in the Caribbean to become a Category 1 hurricane once more.
The hurricane appeared unlikely to make direct hits Sunday on either Mexico or Cuba. Forecasters predict it will pass over the Yucatan Channel that separates the countries.
Early Sunday, Ida was centred about 115 kilometres east-northeast of Cozumel and moving northwest at 19 km/h.
