St. Louis, Missouri: 5-Alarm Fire Closes I-44
A 5-alarm fire at the Chemisphere Corp. chemical plant caused nearly 500 residents of a southern St. Louis, Missouri neighborhood to evacuate their homes. The fire broke out at around 2:30am local time. Firefighters in hazmat gear showed up to fight the blaze. Three firefighters have reportedly been injured while inside the chemical plant.
I-44 is closed between Kingshighway and Laclede Station Road as firefighters use the tarmac as a staging area for battling the blaze. The St. Louis fire is mostly contained, and the evacuated residents have returned to their homes.
