As the Iranian authorities warned the opposition on Tuesday that they would tolerate no further protests over the disputed June 12 presidential elections, a report emerged of the hangings of six supporters of defeated candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi.

Speaking after Iran's top legislative body upheld the election victory of incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, sources in Iran told this reporter in a telephone interview that the hangings took place in the holy city of Mashhad on Monday. There was no independent confirmation of the report.

Mashhad (Persian: مشهد, literally the place of martyrdom) is one of the large cities in Iran and one of the holiest cities in the Shia world.

Population about 2.5 million, with a famous university and several religious schools, as well as one of the oldest libraries.

Confirmation from blogger inside Iran.

  • Islamic Republic on Wednesday hanged six people in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison. The regime’s Judiciary gave no details of their identities or charges. The regime on Monday set up a three-man committee comprised of leading henchmen of the regime to see to the files of those arrested in the course of the Iranian people’s nationwide uprising. The members of this committee are among the key officials responsible for the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in summer of 1988 and the chain murders in the late 1990s.

Last Friday, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, a member of the regime’s Assembly of Experts, said that protestors had “waged war on God” and urged authorities to “deal with them until they are completely eradicated”.

These executions, which are meant to spread fear and counter the Iranian people’s anger and discontent, will not resolve the very many crises the regime is facing in the final phase of its existence.

Amid the talk of despair and quashed protests, one defiant reformist supporter told this reporter: "The regime wants the world to think they have won. Don't believe it... Even if this regime is about to collapse, they would not let anybody know until their final hour."

Hmmm...I wonder how many  have been tortured and killed to cause fear amidst the opposer that we do not know about?  Disgusting humans as leaders, with no heart, morals, soul..pure evil that can do this.

From reports coming out of iran from those released, just about everyone is tortured. Many are crowded in to inadequate cells and hallways. with maybe a blanket, and maybe some food or water. None are allowed to sleep, beatings constant.

Guess the 'Islamic Republic of Iran' has graduated to the 'Islamic Regime over Iran'.

RevolutionaryRoad blog comes directly from inside Iran. Maybe hundreds have already been secretly killed, tortured to death, according to reports from inside Evin prison. The Islamic Regime of Iran is not going to publish this so the West can add this to its arsenal.

PMOI website has reports that more than 34 have been hung in the last few days.

Saw one of the reports on the farsnews site, but you cannot access it from the English side.

an excellent source for translating farsi to english .
