In a major accident 63 people died and many more injured in Partapgarh Distt of Uttar Pradesh state of India. This incident took place when a local Godman's wife's last rituals were going on. The food distribution ceremony gathered thousands of food seekers in the Ashram.

At least 63 people were killed and 15 others injured in a stampede today in a local ashram where nearly 10,000 people had converged for a ritual.

The stampede took place after the gate of Kripalu Maharaj's ashram, 60 kms from here, collapsed during distribution of food on the occasion of "Shradh" of his wife, Sub-divisional Magistrate Kunda Shyama Charan said.

About 10,000 people had gathered at the ashram in Mangarh area when the incident occurred. Charan said those killed included women and children.
