GHALLANAI: Pakistani security forces Tuesday continued shelling on militant positions several of which fell in a village near strategic areas in a tribal region bordering Afghanistan, killing 5 suspected insurgents in a new round of a military offensive that also left three two civilians, including a woman, dead more than 11 injured, sources said. Sources said that Taliban militants were hiding in a village, Mian Killi, near the Shabqadar town after a clash with the security forces that lasted for almost two hours when the latter started artillery and helicopter shelling on the village killing 5 militants and two civilians. It is also learnt that security forces have also undergone heavy loss but they deny.
Militants had a stranglehold on this area prior to the operation, basically setting up a parallel government, Pakistani officials said. The militants either occupied or blew up several schools and set up Islamic courts in the area. Local people have also suffered from the random shelling of security forces a great deal after an experience of several incidents of the collateral damage in the weeklong operation in the region.
