The Australian reports 10 dead.

ALL 10 crew on board a Russian military plane that crashed during a training excercise were believed to have died in the accident, a source close to the inquiry said.

Russian authorities confirmed the crash involving a Tupolev-142 plane in the eastern Khabarovsk region.

”According to information on the air disaster... all the crew have probably been killed,” said the source, quoted by the Interfax news agency.

”Rescue operations are ongoing at the scene and the chances of finding survivors are slim.”

The aircraft was crossing a lake when radio contact was lost, the Defence Ministry was quoted as saying by news agencies.

While Russia Today states 11 dead:

Eleven people are believed to have been killed when a Russian long-range anti-submarine aircraft, a Tu-142, crashed in the Tatar Strait in Russia’s Far East.

It is thought that a technical problem caused the long-range Tu-142 to crash about 20 kilometres off the Pacific coast.
