Of the 228 Nay votes (with 205 Yea) to end the passage of the $700 Billion Financial Market Intervention Plan, 95 were Democrats that went against their party leadership and Nancy Pelosi.

It is a good thing that these patriots stood up against the 65 Republicans who voted for the plan that remained essentially the same as what was being proposed last week - a large taxpayer funded pile of money without any free market apparatus to assure a capitalistic outcome to the social engineering mess that created this problem in the first place.

These 95 Democrats should keep their jobs and the 65 Republicans should loose their jobs.

Low interest loans, tax breaks for business, and a review of the structure in the valuation of property are the elements needed for a free market solution to this liquidity problem.

Not $700 Billion with few strings other than the dictates of those who created this mess in the first place!

House votes against $700 billion rescue package

Markets plunge as lawmakers race to vote again

By Ruth Mantell & Greg Robb, MarketWatch

Last update: 3:24 p.m. EDT Sept. 29, 2008 WASHINGTON

House lawmakers voted Monday to reject the historic $700 billion financial rescue plan, a sharp blow to the administration and bipartisan leaders in Congress who warn that the country is on the brink of an economic precipice.

It's unclear what the next step for rescue-related legislation will be, though an aide in the House speaker's office said lawmakers are ready to work in a bipartisan way. U.S. stocks sank Monday, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell as much as 700 points, with the meltdown intensifying during the vote.

The Treasury Department will use "all tools" at its disposal to protect financial markets in the wake of the House's rejection, a spokesman said Monday. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson will confer with President Bush and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Congressional leaders on the next steps. White House spokesman Tony Fratto said Bush has asked his economic advisers to gather for a meeting.

With elections approaching, some lawmakers -- both Democrats and Republicans -- may have felt nervous about voting for a plan that risks so much taxpayer money and can't promise success. But the president has lobbied hard to approve the plan, and U.S. officials also have stressed the dire consequences of taking no action.

There were 205 in favor of the legislation and 228 against. Among Democrats, 140 voted in favor and 95 against. Among Republicans, 65 voted in favor and 133 against.

Critics say the plan does not adequately address problems such as job losses and a distressed housing market that underlie current economic weakness. U.S. officials had hoped the plan would ease the credit crunch and restore confidence in the markets, even as markets plunged around the world. Those in favor of the rescue plan may have been trying to treat the most manageable symptom -- a frozen credit market -- if not the actual disease.

A vote in the Senate was expected Wednesday, and the president would have followed with a speedy signature.

Who and how they voted

Truth is, if people are worried as to why this $700 Billion bill did not pass, the market dropped 777 points, and banks are not lending ... the Democrats could not find eleven more of themselves to switch while Nancy Pelosi slammed Republicans before the vote ... and Barack Obama? where was HE? sitting on the sidelines for two weeks now, twiddleing HIS thumbs ... that's leadership.

Could these calculating Dems become too smart ... by half?

This is so not true, Ed, the market bounced around, up and down, but that's what it always does. If it didn't, if no one bought and no one sold, then everyone might have a reason to freak. And banks not lending, that is not true either.

Healthy banker's opinion on the bailout. from a guy named Dunkelberg, would you believe? But then Catherine Austin  Fitts has long advocated using community banks.

What sort of Government would America have if elected officials lost their job for casting a vote ? ( lost job for voting, not lost job in an election because of their voting )

I watched ABC National News tonight and saw Charlie Gibson, George Stephenopolous and sundry high-profile 'consultants' spend 25 minutes presenting a completely one-sided report on the situation amounting to nothing more than a fear-based appeal to the masses to bail out the criminals who committed this crime !! Talk about corporate media ...

Deep breath now ...

And the other 5-minutes ? Anecdotes on the death of Paul Newman from Robert Redford, basically looking like he himself may be next ...

It is complete madness !!!

Edmund Jenks, I like this story. It's good stuff.  I am surprised the democrats want to keep the US from being communist.  That is what they have always wanted!

You are correct ... that is probably why Pelosi pulled the plug on this process so close to the election.

Why dip one's finger in the frosting when one can wait and have the whole cake!

Yea Pelosi disgusting liberal elitist with all her immoral San Franciso freak buddies.  Revelations:  What was wrong will be right, and what was right will be wrong.  Rev.13:5-10 - And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty [and] two months (approx. 3 1/2 yrs.) (6) And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. (7) And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, (or nations) and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues and nations. (8) And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (9) If any man (or person) have an ear, let him hear.
