As of the day I uploaded this photo, Google Maps shows this bridge still in use and the new bridge (several yards to the east) still under construction.

This bridge is on the National Road's original path through western Indiana. This bridge looks (to me) typical of bridges built in the late 1910s and through about 1930 in Indiana.
It is not clear to me whether US 40 ever traveled this route.

This is an abandoned bridge in western Indiana that once carried traffic over the first federally-funded highway in the United States, the National Road.
