ABC Dishonestly Edited Sarah Palin Interview
If you have a pulse and watch television, you must certainly be aware that Obama supporters have been smearing Sarah Palin unmercifully to the extent that they have overreached so badly that they have all made themselves look foolish, vindictive and vicious. ABC is a charter member of the smear crew.
ABC Misrepresents Palin Quote in ‘Holy War’ Question
September 12, 2008 FOXNews.com (Excerpt)
"This promo of Sarah Palin's ABC News interview appeared on the Yahoo! News Web site.
Millions of TV viewers who watched ABC News’ interview with Sarah Palin Thursday night never saw her take issue with a key question in which she was asked if she believes that the U.S. military effort in Iraq is "a task that is from God."
The exchange between Palin and ABC’s Charlie Gibson, in which she questioned the accuracy of the quote attributed to her, was edited out of the television broadcast but included in official, unedited transcripts posted on ABC’s Web site, as well as in video posted on the Internet.
But in the version shown on television, a video clip of her original statement was inserted in place of her objection, giving a different impression of how Palin views the Iraq war.
In the interview, Gibson asked Palin: "You said recently in your old church, ‘Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God.’ Are we fighting a Holy War?"
Palin’s response, which appears in the transcript but was edited out of the televised version, was:
"You know, I don’t know if that was my exact quote."
"It’s exact words," Gibson said.
But Gibson’s quote left out what Palin said before that:
"Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan."
The edited televised version included a partial clip of that quote, but not the whole thing.
Gibson’s characterization of Palin’s words prompted a sharp rebuke from the McCain campaign on Thursday.
"Governor Palin’s full statement was VERY different" from the way Gibson characterized it," read a statement circulated by McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.
"Gibson cut the quote — where she was clearly asking for the church TO PRAY THAT IT IS a task from God, not asserting that it is a task from God.
"Palin’s statement is an incredibly humble statement, a statement that this campaign stands by 100 percent, and a sentiment that any religious American will share," Bounds wrote.
In the rest of the segment that aired, Palin told Gibson that she was referencing Abraham’s Lincoln’s words on how one should never presume to know God’s will. She said she does not presume to know God’s will and that she was only asking the audience to "pray that we are on God’s side."
A promo posted on Yahoo! News Friday continued to misrepresent the exchange. It displays Palin’s image next to the words, "Iraq war a ‘holy war?’" implying that Palin — not Gibson — had called the War on Terror a holy war.
ABC News did not respond to requests for comment from FOXNews.com.
ABC’s mischaracterization of Palin’s words was not the only one in the media. The Washington Post also did some last-minute clean-up in one of its articles on Palin — a front-page story Friday with the headline "Palin Links Iraq to Sept. 11 in Talk to Troops in Alaska." " Fox News

Calling a liar a liar is not a smear, but carry on.

joellerose, I like this story. The McCain camp is spining any negative media portrayal of their campaign into an attack on their constituents. They are portraying a hostile elitist media, alligned with Obama, as working against them and attacking evangelical and rural values and life as a means of winning the hearts of their constituents. By editing this way ABC News makes the story more marketable and increases ratings. I don't see how it helps Obama. Outraged people are just as or more likely to watch than a typical viewer.
The unedited statement is just as scary as the edited one to me. Asking someone to pray that the war is a task for god is just as weird as saying the war is a task from god anyhow. God wants us to have wars? Ok.
I wonder if we will see any more interviews with her?

Haven't you heard, wino, the terrorists, suicide bombers and other murderers of their own people all say it is a task assigned by god? Their god has ordered them to murder and deceive.

Interesting argument Rene. I personally wouldn't go as far as to compare Palin to Osama Bin Laden but with lines like Palin's (even the full quote) you can see patterns in their thinking.

Everyone who watched the Republican convention saw a scene of unscripted beauty unfold that told a story of family love and big (little) sister devotion that brought tears to most of us. It told us more about the qualities of Sarah Palin than any speech or examination of her record could. It told us that a woman with five children successfully holding down one of the toughest jobs in the United States managed to raise a family that loves and respects one another. It showed us a little girl lovingly holding and grooming her baby brother. It showed us the soul of the Palin family.

I think that the liberals can't stand it that the Palins are a blue-collar family. The gang that yells "elitists" at Republicans would much rather back effete fops that don't get their hands dirty or work their way through the state college.
To them, there's a lot wrong with Palin: her husband is from the indigenous peoples of this land (and he doesn't whine and preach victimization, either). He's a union guy. She's a strong, succesful woman on her own terms who doesn't bow down to the leftists or let anyone tell her what to do. With the Demos, it's "ok" to have a woman involved as long as she toes the correct leftist party line.
And I think that the fact that Palin didn't abort her child, or force her daughter to have an abortion, but exercised their rights to choose in a different direction, really got leftists going. To them, "the right to choose" only means choosing abortion.
A friend and I today concurred that it's interesting to watch the so-called "feminists" of the leftist camp attack Palin. Bottom line--they're not really feminists at all; they're not really concerned about *all* women. They're only concerned about elitist women who will bow to their party line and demands.
The "liberals" have finally ripped off their own masks to reveal how terribly conservative they are in terms of having to agree totally with them. They want manageable tokens who'll put on a good show and mouth the correct lines. Style, not substance.

joellerose you're not gonna win this one, so you may as well throw in the towel. Palin is as much of a disaster for America as McCain is or would be as president.
She's smeared because there is plenty TO smear, even by your own proof you offered. First off, she's a McCain pawn to attract Hilary voters and 2nd, women voters who could care less about Hilary or Obama or even McCain for that matter. Women who want a woman as president for whatever reason.
ANY woman who would let herself be used as a pawn like that, does not have the decency or self respect to run a country. And with McCain's age and health, she would be running it. Lower into the ground than Bush has. WE are the laughing stock of the world, for two reasons. BUSH and the Republican party. It can't GET any plainer than that.

Smear it all over yourself, Jim. Truth is good for the skin; opens the pores.

And you smear yourself too, dunk, with your constant litany: "Liar, liar" Remember what happens when you point a finger at someone, there are three more pointing back at you.

She works hard, at blue-collar jobs, too, and has all her life. Her husband works, too. I understand that the idea of working hard is insulting to some, for some weird reason, but I think that the fact that this family has solid work ethics is a good thing.
As for decency and self-respect, consider this a long-overdue protest of your disrespect for women in general with your constant litany of "Grand Old Boobs" party, etc. I think that Palin's just your stalking horse because you're among those who simply can't tolerate the idea of having a strong, successful woman lead.
She's nobody's pawn. McCain executed a major political stroke that has the Obama camp running around like chickens with their little heads whacked off. I laughed when I read an analysis piece that said that Obama's so rattled that he began focusing on her and running against the Republican's v.p. candidate! Man, his ego is all shook up!

Time line editing was done by ABC on this interview, in places changing the context of replies given. Examples can be read here. Palin Interview
Given Gibsons past interviews with Democratic politicians where he wore kid gloves while shelling out candy coated questions. His hard hitting, leading interview with Palin seems to show his political leanings not only on sleeves but in his whole makeup. I think a real shame for someone at the forefront of main steam media.

joellerose, I like this story. It's good stuff. Despite the obamanites objections. They can't face the truth and resort to calling it lies.

More like when their Rabies shots finally take hold and they stop frothing at the mouth...
but other than that point taken....they will probably move on again to the "new kid in town" soon.

joellerose, I like this story. It's good stuff. Gutsy of you to post it, given not only the leftist bent here @ NP, but also the foaming-at-the-mouth hatred of Palin and the contempt for strong women achievers. It's like NP has become the early 1950's! Oh noooo! An uppity woman! tee hee
BTW, did you see the SNL sketch about Palin and Hillary Clinton? It was so funny, and so good, that I had to watch it on the 'net more than once.

It is unfathomable to me how so many posters on NowPublic could have such hatred and spew such vitriol about Sarah Palin, a person they didn't even know three weeks ago, and still know little about. She is the successful governor of a state and the mother of five children in a home that obvously is filled with love. I think these posters need to look to their own character and mental health. Where does such hatred come from? I oppose Obama because I don't think he is qualified to be president, but I don't hate him. I think Biden is a fool because of all the foolish things he has said and done over a long career, but I don't hate him.
