Academy Award Winner, Morgan Freeman in serious Auto Accident

Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman was in a serious car accident in Mississippi last night. The one car accident around 11:30 just north of Ruleville. Freeman was on his way home to Charleston when the wreck happened. He was flown by helicopter to a Memphis hospital. Morgan is in "Fair" condition. Luckett said that Freeman sitting up and talking right now. The condition of an unidentified female passenger in the car is unknown.

Update: Morgan Freeman Car Accident Demaris Meyer Identified as Passenger

The newsroom at TMZ notes that the actor was in crash in a 1997 Nissan Maxima with Freeman at the wheel and now identified passenger Demaris Meyer was in the car as well when it went off the shoulder of the road and flipped over around 11:30 p.m. in the city of Ruleville.

The latest information was he was transported in fair condition, CNN is reporting that he is now in serious condition.

Update: 3:35 ET - Mr. Freeman has a broken arm and shoulder. Doctors say he should make a full recovery.

Update 12:55 PM- Morgan Freeman hospitalized after car wreck

Morgan Freeman was in serious condition after a car accident Sunday night.

Milla Borden, spokeswoman for the Memphis Regional Medical Center, confirmed that Freeman was a patient at the hospital.
CNN affilliate WMC of Memphis reported that he was in a car accident in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, about 100 miles south of Memphis, late Sunday.

According to The Associated Press, Freeman was "lucid" when the rescue team found his car.

"They had to use the jaws of life to extract him from the vehicle," Clay McFerrin, editor of Sun Sentinel in Charleston, Mississippi, said. "He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point."

Freeman may have surgery as early as Monday evening and could need three to four months to recover, Luckett told reporters outside the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

"I heard a noise outside that sounded like a car sliding," said Bill Rogers, who lives on the highway where the accident happened. "I turned around and looked out the window real quick, and I saw a car flipping bumper-to-bumper, head over heels."

Rogers, a former police officer and sheriff's deputy, said Freeman and Meyer were unconscious when the car came to rest on its wheels. But by the time he returned from calling an ambulance, both were talking, he said.

"He wanted to get out of the car and lay on the ground," Rogers said. "I told him no, he needed to stay put until the rescue people got there."
