On 27th March 2008, a criminal writ application No 101 / 2008 was filed in the Mumbai High Court for action against the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, for allowing hundreds of  police inspectors working under him to build illegal outposts across the city and pilfer electric power for them.

A leading newspaper had reported the story in May 2007, but the Commissioner did nothing to stop this illegal practice. After a writ petition was filed in the High Court, the court on 24th October 2007 ordered the police to demolish 269 police outposta and give the list of all officers involved. However all the court orders were ignored.

The full application can be read at http://www.RoguePolice.com/crapplication.htm

The application is likely to come up for hearing on 3rd April 2008.
