Activists close runway at UK airport
Stansted airport has now reopened following a massive protest by environmental activists which shut it down. About 50 protestors broke into a section of the airport.
Police say four people have been arrested after about 50 protesters broke in to a secure area of Stansted airport near London.
The group behind the protest says it began about 3:00 a.m. Monday when the environmental activists occupied a runway that had been closed for maintenance work.
The protest is over a government decision to allow the expansion of Stansted Airport with a second runway.
The group, which calls itself Plane Stupid, says aviation is the fastest growing source of carbon emissions.
The airport is 60 kilometers (38 miles) northeast of London.
