Addressing Black Racism

There are any number of black people in America who hate white people - all white people - and see them as racists. This attitude is ignorant and hypocritical, and it should be done away with entirely.

I've been told by some educated black people that leftovers of racist thinking remain even in white people who are against racism. There may be truth to that; however that does not justify hating white people as such. That attitude is itself racism; and black people should know enough about racism to not practice it themselves.

It must be remembered that the Civil War was fought in America over black people, and a million white people died in it. If a white man is willing to put his life on the line for black people, as did the Northerners who took part in the Civil War, then that white man is a good person and deserves gratitude and respect. The same is the case with those white people who have sympathized with the black people in more recent times and worked to change laws and society in their favor.

Over the last several decades, a lot was done in America to fight racism. It was shamed in society, media and academia, and programs were put into place to help black people succeed. Whereas in some other countries, racism continues and in very crude forms. When I asked a young white South African who is in charge there, he said, "monkeys." If someone (outside possibly the Deep South) said this about America's present leadership, he would not be in a good way. Yes, there are white people who are genuinely racists; these are however not the people who generally get attacked. The white people who get attacked a lot more tend to be city Democrats; and these are the last people whom one as a black person should be attacking.

In the last decade and a half, black people have done well. Africa is booming, a number of black people have become highly influential in world affairs, America has a black president, and African leadership has, for the most part, improved. The more black people achieve, and the fewer of them kill and loot their own people, the stronger becomes the case against those white people who hate black people, and the more influential become the people - both black people and white people - who want racism gone. This becomes a much more viable and a much more valid path than attacking white people for being white people. The better the conduct of black people, the better their reputation, the stronger the case against racism and the less convincing the arguments of those white people who are racists for real.

The events of the last decade have proven that black people can accomplish anything that white people can accomplish. This means that the attention of black people should be directed toward such accomplishments. The more the black people achieve, the less convincing will be the arguments of real racists. And that will do far more for black people than any amount of black racism or hatred toward whites for being whites.

Great and well-thought article. Indeed, one needs to deeply understand the history of slavery, the American Civil War, the Jim Crow era, and the Civil Rights Movement in order to drive racism into extinction. A new novel, The Final Race, skins this very subject alive.
