Perhaps this is also attributed to the ceasement of Suicide Bombers taking their own Lives in order to go to Paradise and Enjoy the Fruits of 100 virgins. Apparently a Photo of British Singist "Susan Boyle" has been  spread amongst the Taliban, who now realise what a Virgin Looks Like!  Hence the Taliban fleeing in the other direction!

OTTAWA — The "significant" allegations of fraud in the recent Afghanistan election are a sign of progress toward democracy, says a top Conservative cabinet minister. International Trade Minister Stockwell Day gave the relatively positive assessment in an interview with Canwest News Service and Global Television on Friday. In contrast, European Union observers have labelled as "suspicious" as many as one-third of the votes cast for incumbent President Hamid Karzai, while U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has said that uncertainty about the outcome has "complicated" the mission.

In all fairness, Stockwell Day has to look at the overall picture and not just the election.  There has been some progress, for sure, but how free was this election?  How many people felt pressured and didn't vote?

Democracy in Afghanistan is definitely not what we call Democracy.  It may be months before the result of this election is announced.  At the present Hamid Karzai has reached the 50+1 mark, but will it be that way after all the recounts have occurred.

So while I agree with Stockwell Day partially, much still has to be done.
