Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai wants to move up the plans for an August election in Afghanistan to an earlier date and he has asked the country's electoral commission to do this.

This request comes after lawmakers said they won't recognize Karzai as President after May 22 as he will have been in power for five years. The Afghan constitution says that elections have to be held 30 to 60 days before the May 22nd date.

The commission in January said the presidential election would be held Aug. 20, but many members of parliament have said an August vote was not acceptable and that Karzai would be an illegitimate president after May 22.

However, international monitors said that it is difficult to hold elections in March or April due to bad weather and some security concerns.
