The war against the Taliban, now carried out by the Pakistani Army in a big way, backed by the powerful USA has resulted in over 2,000,000 refugees. Some of them are in refugee camps.
In Sri Lanka, there are approximately 210,000 refugees, in camps.
Camps in these countries are fenced with barbed wire/concertina.
The Difference:
In Afghanistan/Pakistan - They are called Refugee Camps, by the Americans, Britishers and their supporters.
In Sri Lanka - They are called Detention Camps by the same people and LTTE Terrorist supporters.

I really want to know what backing the USA gave in winning the war against this terrorist group?

Backing was very minimal. More gas than sauce.
USA offered military courses to Sri Lanka forces.
They can't even get close to the countries which helped the Sri Lanka Government to eradicate these serpents.
