Sorry, I don’t buy the US strategy in Afghanistan. We don’t have the capacity to execute nation-building. The people of Afghanistan are not showing sufficient enthusiasm. Most important, this approach has all of the earmarks of what led to the fall of China into Communist hands. In the case of Afghanistan, communist hands might be a better alternative than Taliban because communism is, at least, an economic philosophy and theory where Taliban is religious extremism.

What happened in China is the army nationalist army took control of the cities, and the countryside went to the rebels. The rebels strangled the cities eventually.

“A "security ring" of checkpoints and walls around Kandahar has led to increased commerce and movement, he said, and the continuing arrival of U.S. military police is helping build the capability of Afghan police. In the Argandhab Valley, a key entry point into Kandahar city, summer clearing operations and an increase in security forces helped Afghan officials take control of about 85 percent of the territory, up from about 50 percent, Hodges said.”
