'Burn the Quran Day' protest Terry Jones effigy set on fire in Afghanistan

The people of Afghanistan who are depending on the American soldiers to help them defend themselves against radical Talban have displayed actions against the US which should cause President Obama to rethink his strategy for pulling out of Afghanistan. This military plan to bring the troops home is right around the corner according to the president who announced their intentions last week during his speech. The Afghans have gathered in a large protest of the 'Burn the Quran Day' against Reverend Terry Jones and during their protest they burned an American flag.

Considering the protest was not ACTUALLY against the US, but a right-wing, religious zealot who was proposing to burn copies of their holy book, I do not think that any slight was meant towards, or need be acknowledged by, the soldiers fighting in Afghanistan. The fact of the matter is, the "Burn a Quran" day fall-out has been expected by many in and outside the United States, and the burning of a flag is far less aggressive an act than might have taken place. It is unfortunate, and in bad taste, but so is the burning of books. After all, this is not 1936, and we are not in the Third Reich, despite what some of Rev. Jones supporters may wish.

I could not agree more, Pankaj. My point was that a reaction should not be a surprise; one side or the other will have to stop, to prevent escalation, however, and I hope that this latest "protest" is the end of it, though I fear that it will not be....
