Aimee Louise Sword Has Been Sentenced to 9 to 30 Years in Prison For Having Sex With Her 14-Year-Old Son

She gave up her son for adoption when he was only a few days old, but the 36-year-old mother will now at least the next decade in jail for having sex with him when they met up 14 years later.

During her appearance in court on Monday July 12, Ms. Sword apologized for her behavior according to her attorney Mitchell Ribitwer and The Detroit Free Press.

When she had given her son up for adoption to a family in Grand Rapids, Ms. Sword would get yearly updates but when she did not get one when he turned 14 that is when she contacted him through a social networking site.

"When she saw this boy, something just touched off in her -- and it wasn't a mother-son relationship, it was a boyfriend girlfriend relationship," Ribitwer said. "Aimee's searching for a reason why this happened. She can't understand it. She's going to get some counseling."

She was facing third-degree criminal sexual assault charges and she pleaded guilty to having sex with her own son. Apparently she had sex with him at various homes in Waterford n 2008 and at a Grand Rapids hotel. His adoptive mother even let him stay with her in Waterford as she did not know about the relationship. When he returned to his adoptive home, he told a counselor who reported the incident to the police.

"It's the first time I've really seen something like that between a mother-son," Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper said Monday after the sentencing.
