Air Force ready to bolster security in RI-Malaysia border region

Pontianak (ANTARA News) - The Supadio Air Force base in Pontianak is ready to secure restricted flight zone over Malaysia-Indonesia (RI) border in West Kalimantan province.

"In order to bolster security, we have been operating technical surveillance supplemented by routine patrolling aircraft as well as adding seven security posts at the border zone", the Supadio Airport Commander, Colonel Abdul Muis said.

To date, there are 54 security posts which were guarded by five-area commands of the Army to curb security threats in the border zone, Military Chief Commander VI/Tanjung Pura, Major General Tono Suratman said.

Suratman said that the additional threats which have affected social stability in border residential areas, were explosive materials and human trafficking as well as log smuggling.

The Army forces promised to raise number of security posts in the 2000 km borderline using the State budget.

In addition, the troops coordinated with local government held training to enhance human resources in the border residential areas.

Up till now, the local government has divided West Kalimantan into 4 developing areas for a sake of civilians better living, West Province Border Zone Development Acceleration Institute spokesman said. (*)
