Air France Flight 447: Will Black Boxes Be Recovered?

Investigators found some more of the wreckage of Air France Flight 447, which crashed into the ocean while flying from Rio de Janiero to Paris on June 1, 2009. All 228 aboard were killed.

As the wreckage is brought to the surface, investigators from BEA (Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses, France's aviation accident investigation agency) are hoping to recover the black boxes, as well as identify more bodies. The Flight 447 wreckage will be recovered within a month.

The cause of the Air France Flight 447 crash is still unknown.

Without the black boxes, the investigation is mostly speculation: it's not even been settled how the plane actually hit the ocean: at first it was believed that the Airbus A330broke apart midair, then that it hit the ocean vertically.
