unlike ships which go missing every single day, it's very unusual for a plane to suddenly disappear over the oceans, especially one this advanced which flies itself or can even be controlled from Paris.
I suppose we will never know what happened.
at 20:30 on June 2nd, 2009
ships? maybe boats. Ships with 230 people on board don't go missing everyday, and when they do, they have an EPIRB (emergency position indicating radio beacon) that is released when it goes down, or can be set off manually. Jets should have a similar EPIRB that is separate from the plane and will detach on impact or if manually released. Trying to find a plane in 3000 ft of water is quite difficult. When a large ship goes down, they know immediately where to look because of the EPIRB.
at 12:03 on June 6th, 2009
I'm actually astonished about the fact that I, on board any vessel over 500GT can push ONE botton and thereby alert basically the whole world transmitting position and type of emergency. I I don't have time for that my EPIRB will do it for me automatically when it is automatically released to floating when going under water.
Obviously flying is so safe that this kind of safety measures are not necessary on a plane.
Well, Sic Transit gloria Mundi.

Though the A330 is the latest and greatest technology let it be known that this aircraft or none in its family can be controlled from anywhere other than the flight deck. What do you think terrorist would think if airbus or boeing installed this technology allowing for a plane of this class to be controlled from the ground, no less full of passengers!
at 23:27 on June 20th, 2009
Remote control of commercial aircraft isn't a risk anymore than it getting shot down by a much more serious threat of a SAM. There are safeguards that prevent just anyone from taking control of an airliner. The same if not more safeguards would be employed on the ground. A good safeguard would be an override switch inside the cockpit that would disengage any remote control of a planes controls. To say that this type of technology is too dangerous because it MIGHT get into the wrong hands is not a legitimate reason not to use employ it.

Rip is very True in the fact that if they are dead
But there is no evidence to suggest that the passengers are dead
With FINGERS CROSSED these people will have evacuated the plane safely if the plane has crash landed in the ocean and everyone is in Life Rafts I Just hope they all Come back Safe And Sound
at 07:45 on June 2nd, 2009
How extremely optimistic and kind of you...... if only everyone in life had the same outlook as you. I pray too that everyone is safe. I really can't imagine the terror people have gone through before the plane crashed....... my worst nightmare. My heart goes out to all of the relatives and friends concerned.

Evacuation at 500 miles per hour? Hitting water at that speed (or any speed) is like hitting a brick wall.
Prayers to the victims and families. God Bless.
