WASHINGTON:

Businessman and Travelers laptops and other devices like usb, digital cellular phone, digi-cam are being captured for reasons of possible terrorism. This is to protect the interest of business and other informations of a private individual and will be automatically be distroyed upon completion or previews and no probable cause of keeping the documents.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. federal agents have been given new powers to seize travelers' laptops and other electronic devices at the border and hold them for unspecified periods the Washington Post reported on Friday.

Under recently disclosed Department of Homeland Security policies, such seizures may be carried out without suspicion of wrongdoing, the newspaper said, quoting policies issued on July 16 by two DHS agencies.

Agents are empowered to share the contents of seized computers with other agencies and private entities for data decryption and other reasons, the newspaper said.

"When this happen, many sacred files and topcaliber documents will posibly be in public document and may be put in jeopardy."

The policies cover hard drives, flash drives, cell phones, iPods, pagers, beepers, and video and audio tapes -- as well as books, pamphlets and other written materials, the report said.

-- these are the materials most travelers bring to take important moments with them and to businessmen, keeping company files and their datum necessary for the international conferences and media coverage as well..

The policies require federal agents to take measures to protect business information and attorney-client privileged material. They stipulate that any copies of the data must be destroyed when a review is completed and no probable cause exists to keep the information.

-- this should be applied not to all but to suspected terrorist lists and blocklisted. this will be SO UNFAIR to innocent individiual.

pinkberry143, I like this story. Give me a break. "The policies cover hard drives, flash drives, cell phones, iPods, pagers, beepers, and video and audio tapes -- as well as books, pamphlets and other written materials, the report said." Is this sovoiet union style the future to create an Island of "Analphabets". Downgrading economies in militaryindustrial countries failed always replacing innovation by industrial espionage; or in this case "free data traffic". there are no corrupt border agents, no?

SOLARLIFE, thank you for  flagging this article as good stuff..

btw, I am not in favor of putting my personal devices including my laptops and usb(s) in jeopardy. These are my life and won't take a chance to loose them away from my eyesight. these contains business periphernalias and important documents of my companies and clients..though they have the right to sieze ONLY when the country of where the confiscated materials is tighting a "RED ALERT"..

Many businessmen won't be HAPPY to hear this.
