Peace Think Tank, a group at care2.com has sought the help of Amnesty International in ending violation of human rights in tribal areas situated on Pak-Afghan border. In a letter to the Amnesty International, one of the members of Peace Think Tank Laurel called for rule of law in tribal areas. Now the security forces have started destruction of houses in Bajaur Agency after clearing the agency from terrorists. The letter urged the Amnesty International to raise its voice against the injustices meted out to the people of Bajaur Agency, tribal areas.

Dear Amnesty International:

Members of the http://www.Care2.com Peace Think Tank request your help to stop the destruction of the Pesawar's people's homes by Pakistani security forces.
One of our members is living in a war zone and has reported the following conditions:

"Whenever I feel myself in trouble I come here (Peace Think Tank) for seeking your advice with the hope that I shall get some relief. This time I am also in trouble and seeking your advice. Actually my beautiful village Bajaur Agency has been converted into a ghost town by the terrorists and security forces. Some half a million people have left the agency after the eruption of war. Now most of them have been living in refugees camps established by the government of Pakistan in various cities of the country. Jet fighters and gunship helicopters have still been pounding positions in the areas."

".... I have been working in the Statesman newspaper being published from Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province as sub-editor-cum-reporter. After return from Bajaur Agency...Security forces have started bulldozing the houses of alleged terrorists in the areas...our house may also be affected by the destruction around us. I am in Peshawar. I do not know why the Pakistani security forces have been treating the people of Bajaur Agency in this way. I think destruction of houses is against the law. Women and children are also living in these houses. If a person has committed a crime he should be arrested and put on trial, but destruction of houses is not the answer to the problem. I am needing your help in this regard. You can raise your voice against this injustice. You can compel both the US and Pakistani governments to abide by the law. Violation of law by the governments will further complicate the problem.

"I am needing your help. How can you help me? You can send an appeal to the governments of Pakistan and United States to spare the innocent people. Please come on and save the humanity from further destruction. A lot of thanks."

We are requesting Amnesty International to start a campaign to help the people of Peasawar and the village of Bejaur Agency.

We can put you in touch with the member who has reported this to the Peace Think Tank.
Please let us know if you need his contact information.

Kind Regards,

Peace Think Tank

I am just adding a report of News Inertnational about the situation in Bajaur Agency, my hometown.

Around 13 suspected militants were reportedly killed and dozens of houses destroyed in the ongoing bombing by jetfighters and military gunship helicopters in the Bajaur Agency on Saturday.

The military authorities said jetfighters and gunship helicopters pounded suspected positions of the tribal militants in Mamond and Charmang Tehsils, which are considered as the strongholds of the militants.

In Loisam and the adjoining villages, sources said, seven militants were killed when jetfighters and gunship choppers turn by turn pounded their suspected positions.

Tribal sources said several houses of tribesmen, including Noor Rahman, Yar Khan, Zafar, Gul Rahman, Abdul Akbar Khan, Noor Zaman, Sher Mohammad, Noor Rahim, Sher Zamin, Tahir, Ghulam Sadiq and Ziaur Rahman were levelled to the ground when warplanes heavily bombarded Janat Shah Koruna near Rashakai in Khar Tehsil at around 8:00 am.

Interestingly, official and tribal sources said the village was famous for its anti-militant stance and was the only village where militants had never been welcomed.

No casualty was reported as the tribesmen had already vacated the village and shifted their families to Dir, Charsadda, Mardan and Peshawar due to the clashes between the security forces and militants for the past two and a half month in Bajaur. Also, the sources said the main Jamia Masjid of Janat Shah Koruna had been desecrated.

Similarly, military officials said the fighter planes and helicopters pounded positions of the militants in their stronghold of Mamond Tehsil, killing six militants and causing injuries to several others.

They said the planes targeted Badano, Seway, Omari and various other villages where militants had set up sanctuaries and were still in control of the area.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Maulvi Omar, said they would not lay down arms before successful talks with the government.

He said he was wrongly quoted by certain media organisations recently about the proposal for restoration of peace to the region.

Omar, who is hiding for quite some time, said they would not refuse mediation if anyone came forward to negotiate a permanent settlement between them and the government.

The spokesman said the Taliban were serious in their offer for restoration of peace as violence was not a solution to the issues. He said they were sincere in talks with the government, but would never lay down arms before any peace agreement.

Omar said the TTP would like to negotiate with the federal government as Fata was administered by the Centre and the same exercise of talks could later be followed in the Swat district.

Maulvi Omar said the government had not yet reciprocated to their peace proposal. He alleged that the government had imposed war on them as they were never indulged in fighting against the security forces.
