Islamophobia may be justified

Creeping and crawling right under our noses in the Nation’s capital, the authorities have not said it officially yet, but Yonathan Melaku is as close as it gets to the enemy within.

“Man detained in Pentagon security case had prior arrest

PENTAGON

June 20, 2011|By the CNN Wire Staff

A U.S. Marine reservist detained in a security scare last week around the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery had his bond from a prior criminal case revoked, a local sheriff's office spokesman said Monday.

Yonathan Melaku, who was detained Friday after being found acting suspiciously before dawn in the national cemetery, was arrested in May in Leesburg, Virginia, during a vehicle tampering investigation, said Kraig Troxell of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

In the earlier case, Melaku, 22, was charged with four counts of grand larceny and released on a $5,000 bond, Troxell said. Melaku's detention last week caused that bond to be revoked, and Melaku was moved Friday to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, according to Troxell.”

“A man who was carrying suspected bomb making materials and pro-al-Qaeda literature was arrested in Arlington National Cemetery early today, triggering a bomb scare that snarled Washington’s morning rush hour. The FBI, however, determined that the material in his backpack was harmless.

Brenda Heck, special agent in charge of counterterrorism for the FBI, “There was not a device and the products found are determined right now to be inert.”

She said the items in the backpack were still being tested. Sources told ABC News that the backpack contained what was believed to be ammonium nitrate and spent ammunition for an automatic weapon.

Heck also said, “We believe he did act alone.”

Two separate law enforcement sources told ABC News identified the suspect as Yonathan Melaku, 22, of Alexandria, Va. U.S. Park Police said no charges have been filed against him yet.”
