Six members of the Al Qaeda Tarim cell were sentenced to death for terrorism, by a judge in Yemen. The Tarim cell represented the Yemeni wing of Al Qaeda, and included four Syrians and a Saudi Arabian in addition to 11 Yemenis. In addition to the death sentences, the Specialized Criminal Court in Yemen sentenced ten members of the group to 8-15 years of imprisonment.

The convicted men shouted at the judge when he passed down the sentences Monday, with one man threatening that al Qaeda wings in Yemen would kill the magistrate, Saba said.

According to Saba news agency, the Tarim group was convicted for bombing oil and military facilities as well as the US and Italian embassies. Amnesty International reported that the men were also found guilty of killing seven Spanish tourists in an attack at the Queen of Sheba temple in Marib, in 2007, and of killing two Belgian tourists in a 2008 attack in Hadhramaut.
