We don’t know the specific targets, though the chatter is up and information obtained from bin Laden’s hideout point toward possible attacks in New York and Washington DC.

Authorizes are increasing vigilance and attention at the direction of the President.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials have received a credible but unconfirmed terror threat having to do with New York or Washington.

A counterterrorism official tells The Associated Press that law enforcement officials have been investigating the intelligence since it was received late Wednesday night. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security information.

The counterterrorism official says the information in the threat is so specific and comes just days before the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that it could not be ignored.

Security measures around the country, including in New York and Washington, have been enhanced in the weeks leading up to the anniversary.

Homeland Security Department spokesman Matt Chandler described the threat as specific and credible but unconfirmed. He did not release any information about potential targets”

Sounds ominous !

We have had several incidents during the past couple of years -- a random shooter at the Pentagon and Marine Corps facilities who was caught, a former Arab-American Marine. An Muslim-American with immigrant history who was plotting attacks and was arrested with bomb-making materials. We have had former Muslim-American military personnel turn against their fellow soldiers on US military bases. All of these things demonstrate that there are people in this country who will commit terrorist acts when given the support and encouragement to do it.

We have a very loose immigration system and people from nations that are sources of hostility continue to flood our major cities. At a time of economic duress, it makes little sense to compound the problem with sloppy immigration policy and enforcement.

We have sensors detecting suspicious activity throughout our big cities and countless law enforcement and city workers in position of vigilance. Citizens will join them as well and that is the best we can do to defend ourselves.
