Al-Qaida on notice – you have four years to steal the nukes

All is well that ends well. Why would nations with nukes not have the material secured today? The announcement is an admission that many, some, most, have inadequate security today. That is telegraphing (old metaphor) to the enemy, “come and get it,” isn’t it?

Let’s see the list of nations beginning with the least secure. How about devoting resources to help them improve security as opposed to helping Afghanistan develop into a nation that it does not want to be.

The final communiqué of President Obama's nuclear summit would commit the 47 nations in attendance to secure all nuclear material in four years, according to a draft of the document obtained by The Washington Post.

The document began circulating even as Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced that his government would shut down its last plutonium factory, a significant milestone in the world's efforts to limit the spread of material that could be used to construct nuclear weapons.”
