(Political Animal) THE ALASKA INDEPENDENCE PARTY.... What may prove to be the single most damaging angle to Sarah Palin's role on the Republican Party ticket? There are quite a few contenders (ethics scandal, earmarks, inexperience, outside-the-mainstream views), but following up on Hilzoy's item from last night, Palin's association with the Alaska Independence Party might be the most politically detrimental.
It's practically impossible to make a "Country First" argument when your running mate is affiliated with a political party that puts country second.
Officials of the Alaskan Independence Party say that Palin was once so independent, she was once a member of their party, which since the 1970s has been pushing for a legal vote for Alaskans to decide whether or not residents of the 49th state can secede from the United States. And while McCain's motto -- as seen in a new TV ad -- is "Country First," the AIP's motto is the exact opposite -- "Alaska First -- Alaska Always."
Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, tells ABC News that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.
"We are a state's rights party," Clark -- a self-employed goldminer -- tells ABC News. The AIP has "a plank that challenges the legality of the Alaskan statehood vote as illegal and in violation of United Nations charter and international law."

This is a news report, so if you did your own writing about the issue, it is preferred over cut and paste.

politisite, I like this story. It's good stuff. You know when you think of it, all the candidates except Palin, has any governing the people experience. Senators for the most part sit on their arses, vote for bills, do lunch, grandstand etc. At least Palin has governing experience, where as these three senators Obama, McCain, and whats his name Gippy, have the inner workings of the Senate and DC, and perhaps some with the White House experience. I think she is the most qualified to be VP, after all she has worked in the Alaska infrastructure from roads, police, schools, hospital, medicare, public, welfare, employment, budgets, disaster relief and strategies, the list is endless, though she may not have been hands on, she had the right people working for her obviously. What have these three Wonks done lately or in the past to qualify themselves as president? Being a Senator?
Besides, she is smoking Hot, even God would agree with that!

Knowing many of the AIP I must say they are highly self-reliant and would wish to reduce Government to a minimum. This would be a plus for Palin to be sympathetic with the AIP but not to be running on their ticket. Hickel can get away with that, but most would not wish to settle for 5% in a major race.

She never was a member. She attended their convention in 1994 and stated competition is good even in politics.
She is on the record as a registered Republican since 1982. Those records are available even to fools and liars.

Those records are available even to fools and liars.
Where does that fall under code of conduct?

Ayers, we have a code of conduct which obviously includes not calling people fools and liars. You're making valid points, don't denigrate them with insults.

Do some research for facts.
