Amid the world financial crisis, teh Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) continued to sort out new strategies for a virtual currency called Sucre. ALBA Economy Ministers met in Caracas on Tuesday to draft the terms of the new currency.
The economy ministers of ALBA nations have met in Caracas, Venezuela to draft a blueprint for the adoption of a single currency in the ALBA zone. Prensa Latina reported on Tuesday that the economy ministers of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) have discussed a preliminary virtual currency named Regional Unique Compensation System (SUCRE). Venezuelan Economy and Finance Minister Ali Rodriguez told reporters that the member states also discussed energy issues and global challenges threatening the ALBA region. Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Honduras, and Dominica, plus Ecuador as an observer, make up the alliance, which offers development projects and trade programs for the impoverished nations of the region.
