Albina Guarnieri, Liberal MP for Mississauga, snubbed in Lankaweb for echoing the concerns of Tamils in Canada regarding the horror their immediate families, relatives and friends are enduring in the detention camps of Sri Lanka.
In the Sri Lankan Sinhalese chauvinist minds', anybody voice concern over the Tamils of Sri Lanka is a "Tiger" of some sort. In a way, this is actually a compliment to many humanitarian groups, concerned countries and peace activists.
Essentially, if one has not earned a "Tiger" accusation from the Sri Lankan government or the Sinhalese chauvinists, then the chances are that he/she has not even made the slightest attempt to retaliate the human rights violations of Sri Lanka.
Let me be blunt with you Albina. You stood up in parliament as if you were standing up at a church pulpit and recited your damning script like a squeaky voiced nun, and charged the Sri Lankan soldiers raping Tamil women in the IDP camps. These unsubstantiated rape stories that were spread around the world were part of the anti-Sri Lanka Tamil Tiger propaganda. And the British journalists who were the genesis of this story were arrested and kicked out of Sri Lanka. But you still had to repeat it in Canada’s parliament to make your point that you detest the Sri Lankan Government and that you are having a love-in with the Tamil Tigers.
After the insults to the Canadian elected MP, the author - Asoka Weerasinghe, Kings Grove Crescent, Gloucester, Ontario Canada - continues to narrate a plausible rape scenario of a Sri Lankan Army and a Tamil IDP, and leaves out the reality acts of these IDP camps.
The actors: Sri Lankan 30-year old soldier, Silva, and a pretty, lithe 20 year old Tamil woman, Rani, in a peasant skirt and blouse and bare-footed.
Act 1: Silva wants to rape Rani… “Ummmm, but where the hell can I do it as it is so open, and there are hundreds of people every where”, he says to himself, “no, this is impossible, I can’t do it as I will get caught”. He convinces himself and abandons the idea of raping Rani. It was absolutely impossible in these over populated surroundings.
Act 2: Silva approaches Rani and notices a shrub between two tents, and tells himself, “I don’t care if anyone sees us, so he smacks his lips and approaches Rani and tries to drag her to the shrub, and she shouts. Her father, brother, uncle and neighbours ran towards her and circled soldier Silva and he is beaten to pulp and Rani is saved from being raped by soldier Silva. Again the surroundings were not congenial to rape a woman in an IDP camp.
So where is the rape, Albina?
Actually the reality of "Rani"es are that the "Silva"s are forcibly taking the "Rani"es for investigation, interrogation and arrest without warrant/record. Lack of aid agencies, and media reporting are making it possible for "Silva"s to carry out any "law and order" as they see fit.
As for Albina Guarnieri, she has done something to hit close to the reality in Sri Lanka.
UK has earned its award name of being called "Tiger" supporters for calling on investigation on the human rights violations of Sri Lanka. Scandinavian countries are seen as "Tigers" for their probes into Sri Lanka's oppression towards Tamils. Many other western countries also have been called the honoary award of "Tiger sympathesizers" for calling on ceasefire and for calling on better standards for the Tamil IDPs. Many journalists in Sri Lanka and West have been accused of "giving a second wind" to LTTE by writing the reality of the war carried out. Aig agencies are kept out from Sri Lanka, and kicked out from Sri Lanka for voicing the concerns of the suffering Tamil IDPs; consequently they are also called "Tiger" supporters.
As for Obama, he still has not earned the real award of being called a "Tiger" of anything by the Sri Lankan government or the Sinhalse chuvanists, and it should only bother Obama for his lack of participation for the oppressed in Sri Lanka.

These same solders raped underage girls in Haiti under UN peace keeping mission.

Yet, they deny all the allegations.
Only if world knows and understands half of the stories leak from Sri Lanka.
This is what I heard today.
One girl was called by four army men for "questioning", while she was walking with her mother in the camp. She came out after being raped by those four. She was already telling her mother whether I should still live. Then again she was called by two other army men and brutally raped. After that, she hung and killed herself.
Only way to verify is to investigate. International monitoring should be demanded immediately.

Sri Lankan government will keep banning media and aid workers to these IDP camps while the Sri Lankan Army and the paramilitary group, known as the Karuna group assault the IDPs.
These IDP camps are concentration camps to destroy these IDPs.
Medico International has already reported that rape, torture, and killings are the standard of these camps.
The world is acting "naive" to believe anything the Sri Lankan government is saying. If a governement will mercilessly target an ethnic group to the same violence of war in last 3 months, would it have any idea of rebuilding the lives of the same ethnic group?!! and the same government still denies access to media and aid agencies, while "assuring" the world the IDPs are ok.
... and the world seems to be quite content with the Sri Lanka's past behaviour and current behaviour. Appalling!!!
World to Sri Lanka: "oh... things are ok now? great. Ok, ok if you would not let media in ok, that's fine. Just send in few smiling children (any children, does not matter) photos, we will be satisfied that the 300,000 Tamils IDPs are doing jsut fine in the detention camps, never mind the fate of Tamils in the captured regions of Sri Lanka."
