2 Injured in Alcatraz Tram Accident: Firefighters, Park Rangers Respond to Alcatraz Emergency
Park rangers and the San Francisco Fire Department are responding to an unspecified "emergency" on Alcatraz, the historic island prison made famous by Robert Stroud, Frank Morris and, most recently, Nicolas Cage.
Two people were injured, and were brought down to boats operated by the SFFD Rescue Unit. They were described as a 45-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, both with head injuries. They had apparently been part of a tour of Alcatraz when the roof of the small tram in which they were riding collapsed and hit them.
According to some Twitter users, there was some sort of accident involving at least one tourist. More details as they emerge.
